ISHLY — Life, give or take.

SAY IT WITHOUT SAYING IT

Today I am functioning-ish.

ISHLY is a lifestyle, media and education brand for people living with invisible chronic illness — built around the messy in-between. We are not here for the illness. We are here for the life around it. The first goods are out now. The podcast and the journal follow mid-September.

how we actually feel

Not fine. Not terrible. Somewhere in between, and different by Thursday. Never a hundred percent, rarely a straight answer.

lifestyle

Because there is a whole life going on around the illness — clothes, work, plans, humor, people — and it deserves better than a waiting room.

Put them together and you get a word for the way most days actually go. ISHLY. Life, give or take.

Some days are good-ish. Some days are bad-ish. Most days are more complicated than one word can explain.

An invisible illness changes far more than symptoms. It changes plans, identity, relationships, work, energy, confidence, travel and the way you imagine the future. None of it shows, so most people never see any of it.

ISHLY is not here for the illness. It is here for the life around it. No cure, no mindset shift, no better version of you. Recognition, useful tools, smart conversations, humor and things that look good — for real life as it actually is.

It is for adults living with invisible conditions such as fibromyalgia, vestibular disorders, ME/CFS, POTS, long COVID, endometriosis, autoimmune conditions, chronic pain and migraine — the ones you have to explain over and over to people who cannot see them. We speak to shared realities without pretending every condition is the same.

WHY THIS EXISTS

For two and a half years, I was told it was stress.

Stephanie sitting on a low wall at a theme park, laughing, holding a large plush sloth.
A good-ish day. Taken sitting down.
Most of them are.

In October 2021 I woke up feeling drunk. I was 31, running my own business, walking every day, meeting friends without thinking about it. The feeling never went away.

Supermarkets became too much. Busy streets became too much. Walking down a hallway became something I had to plan for. I went from doctor to doctor and heard the same sentence every time: it's just stress.

I knew it wasn't.

In 2024, someone finally ran the right tests. Bilateral vestibular hypofunction and oscillopsia. Relief and grief arrived in the same appointment.

Relief that I hadn't imagined it. Grief for the years I spent being dismissed.

It did not get better. It is not going to. This is not a condition that resolves, and I have stopped waiting for the version of me that existed before October 2021.

What changed is where I put my attention. Once I stopped organising my life around the illness and started organising it around my life, it became something I could handle. Reformer pilates helps me — genuinely, physically. Not because it fixes anything. It doesn't. It works for me. It might do nothing for you, and that is completely allowed here.

I still get tired far faster than I used to. I still can't fit into a day what I once could. The world still bounces when I walk. Some days are genuinely hard, and I'm still working out how to accept a diagnosis I never asked for.

That's the part nobody prepares you for — not the diagnosis, but the life around it. The plans that change. The explaining you get tired of doing. The version of yourself you're still negotiating with. I built ISHLY for that part.

Out now, and what follows.

The first goods are in the shop today. The podcast and the journal follow in mid-September — when they are actually good, not on a date chosen to look impressive.

Black eco tote bag printed with Functioning-ish. Someone wearing a black t-shirt printed with Functioning-ish. The back of a grey hoodie printed with I brought everything. Except the energy.

ISHLY Goods

Sweatshirts, hoodies, tees, a tote, a tumbler and stickers. The things you are tired of explaining, worn somewhere people can read them.

Good-ish. — the podcast

Life questions rather than diagnosis summaries. Why is resting so boring? What happens to a relationship when one person gets sick? The grief nobody warned you about.

Nothing goes out until it is genuinely useful or genuinely worth owning. That takes as long as it takes.

no pressure, obviously

Be there for the rest of it.

The goods are out. The podcast and the journal are next. We build this in the open, so you get the first episode, the first journal and the occasional piece of writing that says the thing out loud. No pep talks, no miracle cures, no “have you tried yoga”. Nothing more than you asked for.

Unsubscribe whenever. We won't be weird about it.
